not that we Vacationed At Home, at all. i’m glad for the rest from what was starting to seem like constant travelling –  it’s improving to go new places, see inimitable things and meet all sorts of new people, but at a certain point i just want to have some time to reorganize, regroup, tend to my garden, putter a little. i am kind of old, after all.
i just also want to have a good bit of summer left to do it in. >_> but that’s the tarnished side of living-somewhere-that-has-seasons coin, isn’t it; the wheel goes round and round whether you like it or not.

i’ve got plenty of puttering to keep me busy, at least.  and i also kind of want to play Fallout: New Vegas, although i should really wait till winter. i’m getting rid of a bunch of industrial pieces on etsy, so i’ve got something of a dystopian bug up my butt.

In a new twist to the TSA saga to which we can only say, “We told ya so,” the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) has obtained documents through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) that reveal TSA employees are reporting “cancer clusters” among their own employees who work near radiation body scanners. At the same time, DHS refuses to issue dosimeters to TSA employees because, obviously, those dosimeters would indicate alarming levels of radiation exposure. So it’s better to just keep everyone ignorant and keep irradiating all the TSA employees and hope nobody notices, apparently.

why would you “alert your companion” if someone in the seat behind you was deliberately groping you and making the sexy-motions? why would you do *anything* except scream in their face and possibly punch them in the crotch repeatedly? i have a friend who’s an air marshal, and he’s righteous and everything, but i don’t think i’d waste his time with doing something i ought to be doing for myself. let Air Molester give *me* the karate-chop: then i can press attempted-murder charges AND sue him within an inch of his worthless life.

(and: Delta? you might expect this kind of thing to happen on Southwest, everyone knows how trashy and slipshod it is; but Delta? somewhere i got the idea that they were a little higher-class.)

like a lot of people, a lot of the time i think i was born about a hundred years too late. i don’t know why, but i have the persistent conviction that this sort of simple, interpersonal-relations style, justified selfdefense was a lot more acceptable back then. it’s probably not true; it’s probably that the trend of calculated helplessness i seem to keep seeing everywhere seems to be ever more acceptable and ever accelerating, and i have an exaggerated perception of the contrast between Then and Now; but i can’t stop thinking that some mistakes should carry their own punishments.
like trying to solicit sex from a strange woman on a plane. that should carry the punishment of being punched repeatedly in the junk by selfsame woman while she screams like an air-raid siren. insult a woman, get screamed at (and suggesting she might be interested in sex with you is beyond the Town of Presumptuous and into the Land of Insulting); molest her and get hurt. i cannot get that simple equivalency out of my head. and i’m pretty sure it’s maladaptive, and i think i might be too old to change.
