| I am a random girl riding a Vespa through modern life in beautiful Denver, CO. If you want to know more, you can read the archives, or check out any of the links on the right under “modchenish”-whatever; updates from my twitterfeed are in here somewhere, too.this version of the blog is 2.2: Polyglot With Bloom And Blood, born of Opinionated, born of Still Life with Healthy Skepticism. i do a subrevision every time i change my theme and a primary revision every time i change platforms – only happened twice so far, and i’m pretty happy now, so we might be in the 2′s for a while. i’ve been blogging online since 1997. i don’t usually keep archives from platform to platform. sorry. for various reasons, it’s just not how i roll. if you’ve known me a while, you know where i’ve been, anyway. if you want to know what i look like, go be nosy in my flickr. i don’t mind. |

among other things, i’m synaesthetic (primarily grapheme-color and timeawareness-colorshape, but some sound-shape-movement and some sound-color, and a tiny bit of tactile(pain primarily) and shape-movement)*, a complete lush, a freak for costume and frock flicks, a twowheel fanatic, a zombiephobe, a leftist independent, an adept techgirl, a punk rock bitch, a certified card-carrying tinyperson™, a second soprano, and an advocate of eugenics.
i’ve been called everything from arrogant to pretentious to self-aggrandizing, chiefly by people who are used to getting their asses kissed by everyone around them and who are shocked and shaken when i won’t do it. what i am is erudite to the point of overeducated, not easily impressed, oldschool as shit, and a grade-a badass. i can prove all of these things. i see no point in beating around the bush about it.
thus, and therefore, there you have it. if you want to know more, take me out for a drink and a snack. i love drinks and snacks, and i love adventure-monkeying with folks i don’t know, and i’m friendlier than i sound here.
*these are terms that are nontechnical, but that we in the syn community actually use because they make sense to us.
synaesthesia has to do with the incomplete myelinization of neural sensory pathways. it’s not a game of poetic association, but of actually experiencing multiple forms of sensation at once, reliably and all the time. those of us who have this and grow up unaware that it’s a thing that other people do have, but that everyone else doesn’t experience the world quite the way we do, frequently don’t talk much about it, because we learn early to repress it or be thought crazygonuts. i am never sure whether it’s a blessing or a curse; all i know is that i experience the world in what i’m assured is a lot more color and other mixed-multisensory perceptions than most people evidently do. for more information, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia; to test yourself in various ways, go here: http://synesthete.org.
